Andreas Matje

Andreas gathered experience both in academics (about 5 years) as well as in business where he occupied various positions during his 10 years in the manufacturing industry and more than 12 years in the oil & gas industry. He developed international management and leadership skills due to the footprint of the companies he has been working with. Throughout his career he has initiated and successfully completed projects mainly related to strategy development & implementation, value management & capital cost, organization & shares services, performance (management, enhancements, rewards), steering (planning, budgeting, management KPIs), M&A and capital markets. He has also been in charge for Internal Audit, Compliance and Procurement. Andreas mainly occupied financial leadership roles but has also taken overall business responsibility.

Professional background

Currently, Andreas works as consultant focussing on strategy & organization, performance management & improvement and financial management & transformation. In 2018 he also became member of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia’s (Ukrainian Railway) Supervisory Board, where he also chairs the Audit Committee.

2013 – 2017: CFO OMV Petrom S.A., a stock-listed integrated oil & gas company headquartered in Bucharest. In addition to Finance and Controlling, Andreas was responsible for Internal Audit, Compliance, Shared Services and Procurement. He successfully focussed on strategy development & implementation, cost savings, improving capital efficiency, secondary listing on the London Stock Exchange and M&A.

2009 – 2012: SVP OMV AG, Austria’s integrated oil & gas group. He started being responsible for Corporate Controlling & Accounting and lead a project to reorganise all corporate functions. As a result he was in charge for the whole of OMV’s Controlling organisation from 2011 onwards. He successfully redesigned capital budgeting and implemented a new financial KPI system to drive achieving corporate financial targets.

1999 – 2008: Polyfelt GmbH (renamed to TenCate Geosynthetics GmbH; a manufacturer of synthetic products for civil engineering) located in Europe, South-East Asia and Australia (joint venture). Joining as VP Finance & Administration, Andreas became a Managing Director (Finance and Production) in 2003. After having been responsible for the sale of the company in 2005, he became responsible for the whole business in Europe.

In the years up to 1998 Andreas has been working as Controller in OMV AG’s Corporate Controlling department as well as Assistant Professor at the University of Economics and Business, Vienna (Industrial Management).

Education and qualifications

Andreas holds a DEc (Doctor of Economics) from the University of Economics and Business, Vienna and an MBA from the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto.
