Ethan McCarty is the CEO of Integral Communications Group, a consultancy that enables international brands to engage, inspire and activate employees on behalf of their employers.

Previously, he was Global Head of Employee and Innovation Communications for Bloomberg LP. where he led a team of internal, multimedia and external communications professionals to activate, inform, and enable Bloomberg’s 19,000+ employees worldwide. McCarty’s team told Bloomberg’s innovation story through its people, workplaces, and technologies.

Before Bloomberg, he was Director of Strategic Consulting for IBM’s Marketing and Communications Labs, where he integrated creative, data, and business disciplines and deployed best practices in design, digital communications, and modern marketing.

Prior to that, as IBM’s global Global Director of Social Strategy and Programs, McCarty developed and deployed the enterprise standards, tools, skills, and measurement frameworks to continuously improve IBM’s presence on external social media.

A former journalist, McCarty came to IBM in early 2000 to manage the web presence for IBM’s $6 billion/year research division. He co-authored IBM’s groundbreaking blogging guidelines, launched IBM’s intranet podcasting platform, and worked on IBM’s award-winning annual report to shareholders. He transformed IBM’s global intranet as its Editor in Chief and led IBM’s alumni relations effort, which grew from a few thousand to more than 105,000 members during his tenure.

He is a lecturer on Digital Media and Analytics in Columbia’s Master of Science in Strategic Communication program.
