Who should attend
No academic qualification is required, and most courses are suitable for students who are new to the subject.
All teaching is in English (unless a foreign-language course). If your first language is not English, you need to satisfy yourself that you have the required near-native command of the language to get the maximum benefit from studying with ICE.
About the course
Are you interested to learn about the coaching science behind different sports and exercise? If so, this introductory course is for you.
This course is designed to provide you with the basic theoretical knowledge to understand how to coach across all ages.
09:30 Session 1: The fitness model – introduction to Strength, speed, power, flexibility, stamina and skills and their inter-relations in training and coaching
This first session will introduce the course and highlight the importance of strength, speed, power, flexibility, endurance and skills, as an integrative inter-related fitness model that coaches could assess, monitor and develop to achieve the requested performance.
11:30 Session 2: Principles of training and periodization
This second session will identify the training principles that one could apply to several sports and exercise plans.
14:00 Session 3: Introduction to basic concepts in exercise bio mechanics and psychology
In this session, some basic concepts will be explained in order to understand how bio mechanics could help coaches achieve their training targets.
16:00 Session 4: Key assessment and monitoring tools and technologies
This session will introduce a few assessment tools that enables coaches to make a start and an action plan based on measurements of the athletes’ strength and the weakness.
17:30 Day school ends
Take home activity (optional): Attending a training session
Students will be encouraged to attend a training session at a club of their choice and at their own time to consolidate the theories by some real examples from the field.
