Cambridge Judge Business School Executive Education

Simone T. A. Phipps, MBA, PhD, SPHR, SHRM-SCP is an Associate Professor of Management in the School of Business at Middle Georgia State University (US), and an Associate Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School’s Centre for Social Innovation (UK). She is also a member of the Thinkers50 (aka the Oscars of Management Thinking) Radar Class of 2021. Her research interests include Management History, Entrepreneurship, HR Practices, Leadership, Social Issues and Innovation, Social Sustainability, and relationships between the organization and society. Usually, her research involves the exploration of gender, racial, and ethnic minorities, with the aim of highlighting their struggles and contributions, as well as finding possible solutions to improve the minority experience in business and society.

She has published articles in a number of scholarly, peer-reviewed journals, general management magazines, and research-based magazines, including but not limited to the Journal of Business Ethics, Academy of Management Learning and Education, Journal of Management History, Harvard Business Review, and MIT Sloan Management Review. Additionally, she presents her research at conferences such as the Academy of Management (AOM), Midwest Academy of Management (MAM), Southern Management Association (SMA), United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE), Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA), Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD), International Council for Small Business (ICSB), and the Business History Conference (BHC). In addition, she serves as an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Management History (JMH). She and her co-author have been recognized by the Academy of Management for publishing “ground-breaking African-American Management History research,” some of which has been included in a number of prominent management textbooks. She and her co-author have also written a book entitled "African American Management History: Insights on Gaining a Cooperative Advantage."
