Biography

Rangapriya (Priya) Kannan is the Associate Dean of Faculty & Accreditation, and the founding director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Catalyzer at the University of San Diego School of Business, where she is also a professor of strategy, innovation, & entrepreneurship. In addition, she is an affiliate faculty member at the USD Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies. Priya also serves as a full professor of entrepreneurship at University of Exeter Business School, one of the UK’s leading institutions. Priya received her PhD from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. She was also a visiting research fellow at Cambridge Judge Business School during her sabbatical.

Priya’s primary research stream focuses on how entrepreneurs negotiate constraints in their environmental contexts by engaging in creative resourcing to accomplish their innovations. She has papers published in several premier innovation and strategy journals such as the Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Organization Studies, and Journal of Business Ethics. Priya has earned several awards recognizing her excellence in research, teaching and for her contributions to institution building, including the prestigious Clarence L. Steber Professorship, a distinguished university award. Priya has also won a Kauffman grant for research on entrepreneurship and several CIBER grants for international research relating to innovation and entrepreneurship.

At USD, Priya teaches strategy and innovation management, entrepreneurship, and sustainable business models to executives, graduates, and undergraduate students. She has developed several new classes, some of which have been featured in media outlets for their innovative pedagogical approaches to entrepreneurship and innovation. To continue to bring real-world perspectives into her research and teaching, Priya continues to be affiliated as a senior associate consultant with Management Systems Consulting Corporation, a niche strategy consulting firm with Fortune 100 clients, as well as high potential entrepreneurial firms.
