Biography

Paula is presently a Lecturer (teaching) in Urban Design and Planning at the Bartlett School of Planning, UCL; and previously a Research Officer at the London School of Economics (LSE) for the EU-FP7 URBACHINA research project looking at sustainable urbanisation in China. She is now completing a PhD in Planning Studies looking at Macao’s public space and the politics of territorial identity - China, sponsored by the Science and Technology's Foundation, FCT- Portugal at the BSP-UCL where she also co-founded and former co-coordinated the China Planning Research Group (CPRG). Overall, her research concentrates on looking at urbanisation in Europe and in China. Trained originally as an architect by FAUP at the University of Porto, Paula worked in several Architecture practices like Santiago Calatrava and Frederico Valsassina Arquitectos Lda, and had her own practice until 2008. She also collaborates in the non-profit sector as a board member for the Portuguese Council of Refugees (CPR) and for the Architects Sans Frontières Portugal (ASFP).
