Biography
CBS Executive
As chief economist and manager EMB, I'm responsible for economic research on health care reforms, data science, data analysis and public health advice. I combine this role with an appointment as an endowed professor at Tilburg University.
As Director I was responsible for a department with the tasks of economic research on health care reforms, public health advice, strategy & communication and legal affairs (legal advice, appeals and fines), HRM and F&C.
From August 2010 until September 2011 I was leave to work on a project about hospital mergers
Before I was head of the Research & Development department at the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). In that position I was responsible for economic research on health care reforms, policy advice and the development of new instruments and tools and the NZa-research paper series.
Furthermore, I'm affiliated as a researcher to TILEC (Tilburg Law and Economics Center). My research concentrates on competition and regulation in general and in health care markets in particular.
As a consultant for Sumicsid I teached tax authorities, regulators and governments on the economics of transfer pricing, regulation and competition.
Before joining the NZa, I was an economic expert the Dutch competition Authority (NMa). I was responsible for the design and implementation of the regulation of regional electricity and gas networks. In the period 2004-2006, I was on leave from NMa helping to establish the current NZa.
I started my career as a transfer pricing specialist at the Dutch Tax Authorities.
I obtained a PhD in economics from Copenhagen University with a dissertation on the theory and practice of regulatory design.
Specialties: Fields of interest: industrial organization, competition policy, transfer pricing, economic modelling, market definition, regulation, bargaining, contracting, benchmarking and health economics.
Computer background: Mathematica, R, LaTeX and benchmarking programs (IB, Frontier and others)
