UW Professional & Continuing Education
Matthew Bennett is an educator, writer, editor and researcher. With a B.A. in creative writing, an M.A. in comparative literature and a Ph.D. in English literature, Dr. Bennett’s education is grounded in the humanities, colonial linguistics and language philosophy. Having lived in Ecuador, Argentina, Canada and the U.S., Dr. Bennett has broad experience teaching language, literature, history and philosophy. He has presented his writing in the U.S., Mexico and Canada and anticipates the publication of his chapter in A Cultural History of Race in the Reformation and Enlightenment, 1550–1760 (Bloomsbury).
Dr. Bennett began editing in 2008 at Ronsdale Press, and in 2016, he co-founded Cascadia Editors Collective to provide developmental editing and artistic guidance for writers. As VP of the Northwest Editors Guild in 2018, Dr. Bennett developed the Emerald Writers Program to give emerging writers their first professional editing experience. He is also excited to teach the humanities at the Seattle Film Institute.
