Biography

Lewis Blackwell is a writer and creative director who has developed, promoted or produced ground-breaking and award-winning work around the world. He is he Director of Lürzer’s Archive, formerly a US-German title, and a magazine now sought-after globally by creatives in the advertising and design industry, who study it and aim to be in it. He is the CEO of the parent company of Lurzer’s Archive, Creative Standards International, which also owns the Cresta Awards, a creative competition with entrants from more than 70 countries.

As an author, his output ranges from the bestselling The Life & Love of Trees, and many other books on environmental subjects, to noted works on graphic design that include Twentieth-Century Type and The End of Print (created with and about David Carson). His connections with photography and film include being for almost a decade the worldwide creative head of Getty Images. He was Chair at the Natural History Museum of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition and currently chairs the board of Stills Centre of Photography in Edinburgh. His magazine experience also includes 12 years as Editor-in-Chief of Creative Review.
