Biography

Koen Swinnen started his law education at the KU Brussels and subsequently studied during his license years at the KU Leuven and the New York University – School of Law (New York City, USA). In 2008 he obtained a master's degree in law. From 2008 to 2013, he was a full-time member of the Institute for Property Law, where he prepared a PhD on the principle of accessority in Property Law and also fulfilled a limited teaching assignment. He was a senior researcher at the KU Leuven Institute for Property Law and a lawyer at Altius advocaten. He is now an assistant professor at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam in insolvency and real estate law.

Koen regularly speaks at study days and is the author of several publications on easements.
