Kingshuk K. Sinha is a Professor and Chair of the Supply Chain and Operations Department, and is the holder of the Mosaic Company–Jim Prokopanko Professorship in Corporate Responsibility. He also serves as a Graduate Faculty in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. Prior to pursuing his graduate education, he worked for the offshore oil and gas production and engineering planning groups of Dubai Petroleum Company (operated by Conoco Inc.) in United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Sinha’s scholarly interests lie at the intersection of the disciplines of Management and Public Policy and the topics of Technology and Innovation, Health Care, Global Supply Chains, Quality, and Social Responsibility. His inquiries are predominantly empirical, motivated by contemporary and consequential realworld business and societal problems, and conducted, typically, in partnership with firms and notforprofit organizations. His research often has a sectoral focus, and the empirical settings of his projects have included the medical/health care, high tech, food/agribusiness, retail, and energy/oil gas sectors.

His program of research is comprised of projects that are addressing questions related to: (i) workdesign and working conditions in distributed operational settings of global supply chains spanning developed and developing countries; (ii) disparities in physical and mental health care delivery in underserved communities; (iii) managing health care supply chain risk and disruptions due to adverse events and recalls related to medical devices and drugs; and (iv) the implications of surgical robots, telemedicine, mobile apps, and precision medicine for managing health care supply chains.

Dr. Sinha has published papers in toptier academic journals such as Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Operations Management, Information Systems Research, Decision Sciences, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, and Journal of Accounting Research. He has designed and taught courses in undergraduate, MBA/MS, and Ph.D. programs. The topics of his recent elective courses include: “Big Data Analytics in Supply Chains” and “Supply Chain Management in the Health Care and Medical Device Sector.” In the Ph.D. program, he has served as the dissertation advisor of a cadre of students.

Dr. Sinha serves as the Director of the Juran Center for Leadership in Quality.  He served as the Founding Academic Director of the Medical Industry Leadership Institute (MILI) that was established to advance management research and leadership education for the medical/health care sector. He has served as the Ph.D. Program Coordinator and the MBA Program Coordinator for his Department. He currently serves as the Department Editor (Management of Technology) for the Journal of Operations Management and as a Senior Editor (Industry Studies and Public Policy) for the Production and Operations Management journal.

Dr. Sinha is the recipient of a number of scholarly recognitions. More recently, he is the recipient of the 2016 University of Minnesota Grand Challenge Grant and is serving as the CoPrincipal Investigator of the intercollegiate, university systemwide initiative, Minnesota Precision Medicine Collaborative, aimed at transforming health and advancing health equity across the State of Minnesota through precision medicine. In 2017, he was recognized as the “MS in Supply Chain Management Teacher of the Year.” In 2019, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Journal of Operations Management.
