University of South Carolina First-Year English Program

  • Instructor

As an instructor of First-Year English, I helped students develop their critical reading, composition, rhetoric, and argumentation skills. To do so, I developed original syllabi, designed lessons and lectures to translate abstract writing concepts into concrete skills for students to work on, and crafted writing assignments to give students the opportunity to practice these skills. I responded to my classes’ needs by finding alternate ways of explaining materials and tailoring lessons to students’ interests, ability levels, and challenges. I also managed student problems, appropriately addressed behavioral issues, monitored students’ progress, and advised and worked with students during one-on-one office hours.

University of South Carolina Linguistics Program

  • Instructor

As a graduate student, I taught two introductory linguistics classes: two sections of Linguistics 300 (Psych 470/Anth 373), Introduction to Linguistics, and two sections of Linguistics 301 (English 389), The English Language. I developed original syllabi and created lessons, lectures, and assignments. I also translated complex linguistics concepts and studies into accessible learning material for non-majors. Finally, I responded to my classes’ needs by finding alternate ways of explaining materials and tailoring lessons to students’ interests, ability levels, and challenges.
