Biography

Research interests

My research engages a multilayered ecological approach to mammalian nutrition, considering nutritional biochemistry, digestive and dietary strategies, and ecological context in order to consider the complex relationship between organisms and their nutritional landscapes.

My dissertation work examined in the relationship between the gastrointestinal microbiome, diet, and nutritional status during life history transitions. My dissertation is focused on understanding the role of the microbiome in early life diet and nutritional development in wild mountain gorillas.

I am also interested in exploring the applications of field biology to conservation initiatives and husbandry practices, and in helping to bridge the knowledge gap between on-the-ground efforts and academic research.
