Emily Mathews is dedicated to making science fun, exciting, and accessible for all. Emily’s commitment to science education at all educational levels is evident in her passionate approach to teaching, coaching, and collaborating.

Her current work at Science in Society at Northwestern University involves providing leadership for two initiatives; Science Club and Science Club Summer Camp (SC2).

Prior to joining Science in Society, Emily earned her BS in Elementary Education at Loyola University Chicago, and continued her studies at DePaul University earning an MS in Science Education. She taught both middle school and K-5 Science and Engineering in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) for ten years before joining the STEM Center at DePaul University as a science instructional coach and NGSS Professional Development Leader.

Emily also serves as an EQuIP Peer Review Panel member reviewing lessons and units with other master educators across the country with expertise in both the NGSS and the EQuIP rubric for Science to determine the extent to which instructional materials are designed for the NGSS.

When she’s not working she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and gardening.
