Biography

National University of Singapore

Dr. Yap's research work focus on cardiac biomechanics, especially with regards to embryonic and foetal hearts, where he investigates the role of mechanics in normal growth and during congenital heart malformations. He has novel contributions in studies on human foetal hearts via ultrasound-based flow and finite element simulations, and works with clinicians to advance foetal heart intervention as a treatment for congenital heart malformations.

Dr. Yap also researches materials strategies for cardiovascular medical devices, including haemostatic technologies, and anti-thrombotic materials for blood pumps, where he uses surface interaction properties to modulate thrombosis responses.

Dr. Choon Hwai Yap obtained his PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology, worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at University of Pittsburgh, and as an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore. He is an Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports, and an Associate Editor for Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing.
