Biography

Professor Hoopes teaches COMM 1800 Foundations of Commerce at the McIntire School. She taught organizational behavior in McIntire's Integrated Core Experience (ICE) during the fall 2020 semester, and before coming to UVA, taught the core undergraduate Organizational Behavior course at The University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Professor Hoopes’ research focuses on person-environment (P-E) fit, which she uses as a framework to better understand how individuals relate to one another, their jobs, and the organizations of which they are a part. In addition to P-E fit, she has done research on topics related to communication, leadership, and teams.

Before joining the McIntire School, Professor Hoopes completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UVA’s Darden School of Business. She earned her PhD from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her M.B.A. from Brigham Young University, and her B.S. in Accounting and Spanish from Brigham Young University. Before academia, she worked in accounting and finance positions at Ernst & Young (Boston office), Ancestry.com, and Zions Bancorporation.
