Prof. Carlos Desmet teaches the MBA course in Business Ethics and Compliance Management at BSL. He founded in 2014 an international consultancy firm dedicated to Business Ethics and Compliance Management. He is also convinced that education of emerging leaders is key in that area and teaches mainly at the Louvain School of Management (UCL- Belgium) in the area of Global Responsible leadership, Business Ethics and Compliance Management and CSR to Young business leaders. Professor Desmet has 26 years experience with Shell International and he was Global Business Ethics and Compliance Officer till 2014. He has a wide global experience in developing and implementing large Ethics and Compliance programme in complex environment and with multiple stakeholders.
Global Ethics and Compliance officer (with strong Finance/Business background) for Shell International since 2006, he has been working abroad for 20 years including in London and in The Hague (in various Finance and Ethics and Compliance roles). He was also posted in France as Finance Director for the LPG Business.
Regional and global roles for Shell both in Upstream (Exploration and Production) and Downstream for various regions e.g. Africa, Europe, South America,.. He also represented Shell on various Boards of Joint Ventures in East Europe, Africa, Middle East, India,..with key focus on articulating and embedding a strong anti-corruption programme.
First global Ethics and Compliance Officer for Shell Upstream business. He implemented the compliance programme for their worldwide operations. In 2009 he moved to the newly created Global Project and Technology business to create its new global Compliance office. This business has major operations on all the continents and he leads a multicultural team operating in various cultural environment, e.g. Nigeria, China, India, US, East Europe, Middle East. He lead the strategic review of the Royal Dutch Shell E&C programme in 2011 which was implemented in 2012.
Carlos works as a consultant now based in Brussels, he provides lectures on Business Ethics, Compliance, Fighting corruption in Business, Risk Management and Governance. He is also a visiting Professor at Louvain Management School (UCL). Carlos is also active as a member of the ICC CSR and anti bribery working group in Paris.
