Biography

Beltrán Roca Martínez is Assistant Lecturer of Sociology at the Department of General Economics of the University of Cádiz. He has a PhD in Social Anthropology and is a member of the Group for the Study of Sociocultural Identities in Andalusia (SEJ-149 code of the Andalusian Research Plan). He has been a professor and researcher at the University of Seville and the Pablo de Olavide University, and has conducted research and teaching stays at Yale University (USA), London School of Economics (United Kingdom), the Multidisciplinary Institute of History and Sciences Humanas-CONICET Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Aix-Marseille Université (France). He has participated as a responsible researcher and participant in several national and international projects on trade unionism, collective action and migration.

He is the author of more than fifty publications on his lines of research, highlighting articles in journals such as American Anthropologist, Anthropological Quarterly, Mediterranean Politics, Labour History, Transfer or Critical Sociology. His latest book, coedited with Emma Martín Díaz and Iban Díaz Parra, is Challenging Austerity. Radical Left and Social Movements in the South of Europe (Routledge, 2018). He is currently working on a book on union organization of migrant workers for the Brill publishing house.
