Additionally, this program incorporates the use of three powerful and transformational tools:

360-Degree Feedback Instrument: Use this effective instrument and work with an executive coach to assess your leadership style and strengths, understand how you are perceived by others, define your core beliefs and understand how they influence you as a leader, and identify barriers to effective leadership.

Personal Leadership Exercise: Work with an executive coach to prepare a plan to address a leadership challenge you are currently facing.

The Attentional & Interpersonal Style (TAIS) Assessment: Learn how your tendencies in interpersonal style will benefit and hinder you, and develop strategies for building on strengths and shoring up weaknesses.

Post-Program Support

Queen's offers several ways to continue your learning after the program, including repeating the 360-Degree Feedback process, following up with your executive coach, alumni events and networking opportunities, and updates on the program and material.

Program content

This program focuses on six themes:

Transformational Leadership

You will learn to communicate a vision clearly and authentically by inspiring, creating enthusiasm, and bringing out the best in others. Through coaching and mentoring people for peak performance, you will be better prepared to address behaviour and performance issues effectively and with confidence.

Building Awareness

Often individuals find themselves in leadership roles based on their functional expertise and problem-solving abilities. This can lead to a common leadership challenge known as the “curse of knowledge”. You will identify key areas where clarity is required clarity in order to be committed and perform at the highest levels. Working in small groups, you will break through the “curse of knowledge” and discover how ambiguous instructions and expectations can limit performance when we don’t take the time to ensure clarity.

Plays of a Coach

As a mentor, you will seek to understand what it is a person needs in order to get better at whatever it is they are doing. Through the use of the 3X4 Coaching Model, you will learn how to effectively utilize the three plays to tap into the four core communication skills.


Experience how recognition can create a productive momentum to positively impact performance, particularly when setbacks are experienced. You will explore how to give more informal recognition and influence on others; and how to remove what blocks you from doing these things.

Skills of a Coach

Through the use of a culminating exercise, you will have the opportunity to experience how truly effective questions can allow people to solve their own challenges and how difficult, yet powerful, respectful listening can be. You will also have the opportunity to coach another participant attending the program and be coached by them also on a leadership challenge they choose and is important to them.


By learning how to effectively prepare yourself, you will be better prepared to engage in a challenging conversation. You will explore how requiring a change in another individual triggers resistance and identifies different forms that resistance can take to address the change that is required.
