Architect and Academic, Sophia Vyzoviti received her PhD in design theory and methodology at Delft University of Technology in 2005. Her research focuses on Design Tool Development, the Modeling of Spatial Interaction and Form Generation Processes. In her practice she sustains the research by design approach. In addition to architecture and urban design she produces architectural prototypes and temporary installations. Her goal is to enhance community cohesion and support collective creativity employing design principles from an interdisciplinary field between architecture, urban sociology, anthropology, and artificial intelligence
Sophia is Associate Professor in Architectural Design at the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly, Greece, She has also taught at the University of Cyprus, National University of Singapore and Delft University of Technology. Her publications include three books on form-generation methods for architecture and product design: 'soft shells', 'supersurfaces' and the best-selling 'folding architecture' released by BIS Publishers Amsterdam. She has published extensively in Greek and presented papers at international conferences. She actively engages in numerous workshops as instructor and critic and lectures worldwide.
