The London School of Economics and Political Science

Shuang Chen is an Assistant Professor in International Social and Public Policy. She joined the Department of Social Policy in September 2021.

A demographer by training, Shuang uses quantitative methods to address questions at the intersection of demography, education, and social policy. Her current research focuses on the demographic causes of educational inequalities and the role of education in fertility transitions in developing countries.

Shuang's work has appeared in academic journals, including Demography, International Journal of Educational Development, and International Review of Education.

Shuang holds a Ph.D. in Demography and Social Policy from Princeton University and a master's in International Education Policy Analysis from Stanford University. Previously, she worked and consulted for the World Bank, PARIS21, and Oxford Policy Management.
