Biography

Dr. Shimul Roy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Resource Management (ESRM), Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU). He obtained his B.Sc. (2009) in Environmental Science and Resource Management in the Department of ESRM, MBSTU. He received his two-years Master’s (2012) in Environmental Science from the TEMA Institute (Water and Environmental Studies), Linkoping University, Sweden. Dr. Roy received his Ph.D. (2021) in Environmental Science, Energy, and Built Environment from the City University of Hong Kong (CityU). His doctoral dissertation focused on developing emission inventories for anthropogenic emission sectors (e.g., thermal power, on-road transportation) and renewable energy interventions for potential emission reduction in the future. In 2014, he started his academic career as a Lecturer at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. Currently, Dr. Roy is working as a postdoctoral researcher at the CityU. Before joining CityU as a postdoctoral researcher, he worked as a researcher at CityU and the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He worked as a principal investigator and co-investigator in different research projects funded by various Ministries of Bangladesh and the Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, including the Ministry of Planning, and Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Dr. Roy is interested in various researches focusing on environmental and sustainability issues, including anthropogenic emissions estimations and projections, Asian biomass burning emissions, future carbon emissions reduction in different anthropogenic emission sectors using renewable and sustainable alternatives/ green technologies, and municipal solid waste management.
