Research and Teaching Interests
Bhimani's research is at the intersection of supply chain labor, risk and corporate social responsibility (CSR). He is focused on preventing forced labor (i.e. human trafficking) in supply chains. He uses quantitative (econometrics, game theory, optimization) and qualitative techniques to help companies, governments, and NGOs stop modern slavery in supply chains. Bhimani has taught supply chain and operations management at multiple top-tier universities for PhD, MBA and undergraduate courses on the subjects of operations and supply chain fundamentals, sustainability, ethics, statistics and optimization.
Industry and Academic Experience
Prior to joining academia, Bhimani held multiple positions in the global supply chain division of a leading Fortune-500 company. He has worked, researched, volunteered and taught in North America, Europe, Africa, and East Asia. Bhimani has also helped establish a supply chain start-up and consulted for the U.S. Department of Energy.
Services to the Academic and Local Communities
Bhimani presents his research at leading operations and supply chain conferences including INFORMS, POMS, and DSI. In the local community, he has volunteered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the United Way, Junior Achievement, and currently co-leads a U.S. poverty alleviation study to understand the root causes of human vulnerability. He has also helped organize non-profit programs for youth education and toward building capacity for social entrepreneurship and sustainable supply chains.
