Biography
Ramon O’Callaghan is Dean of Porto Business School (PBS), University of Porto. He is also a member of the EPAS and EDAF committees of EFMD in Brussels, the Supervisory Board of ISM in Lithuania, and the International Advisory Council of FDC in Brazil.
He was the founding Dean of the Graduate School of Business at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan (2013-2015), a school set up with the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Earlier, he was professor for 15 years at Tilburg University (1997-2012), in the Netherlands, where he held several senior positions: Dean of the business school (Tias), Associate Dean, Director of MSc programs, and Director of the International Executive MBA, a joint program with Purdue University. Other positions included: Director of Deusto Business School and Vice-Rector, University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain (2006-2009), MBA Director at Nyenrode University, Netherlands (1994-1997); assistant professor at IESE (1989-1993), and researcher at Harvard Business School (1985-1987).
His professional experience also includes executive education, research and consulting projects for European, American and Asian organizations. He coordinated and participated in several projects of the European Commission and has taught in executive programs of IESE, INSEAD, London Business School, MIT Sloan, Purdue University, and Solvay Brussels. Prior to his academic career, he worked several years at Texas Instruments.
His interests include Management of Technology and Innovation. His work has been published in academic journals, books and conference proceedings, e.g. Journal of Marketing, Journal of IT, European Journal of IS, MIT Press, Wiley, ICIS. His recognitions include the best paper award in the Knowledge Management track at the Hawaii International Conference on Information Sciences (HICSS) 2006, and the Best Teaching Case award at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in Milwaukee, 2006.
Prof. O’Callaghan holds the degrees of Doctor of Business Administration from Harvard, MBA from IESE, and MSc and BSc in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Catalunya (UPC). His education also included courses at MIT Sloan and ESCP in Paris.
