Biography

Flora completed her MSc and DPhil in sociology at St. Cross, Oxford in 2003 and 2009 respectively. Being born and raised in Hong Kong, she obtained her BSocSc at the University of Hong Kong where she worked as a research assistant and tutor for a couple of years after graduation. She obtained her MPhil in sociology in 2002 before embarking her study in Oxford. Her research expertise includes ethnic minorities, forced migration, social network, work and education, selfhood, death and illness and qualitative research.

She is currently an Associate Professor and Associate Head of Sociology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, the first private university in Hong Kong. She also serves as the Deputy Warden of student hall residence and was previously the Director of General Education of the University. Before joining HKSYU in 2012, she was a lecturer and post-doctoral fellow at the University of Hong Kong.
