Frankfurt School of Finance & Management

Dr Pieter Pauw (1984) currently works for the FS-UNEP Center at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, where he conducts research and provides policy advice on international climate policy and climate finance. Before joining the FS-UNEP Center, Pieter worked at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) in Bonn, where his research focused more on adaptation in developing countries, climate justice issues and Nationally Determined Contributions. Pauw is an Associate at Stockholm Environment Institute and the Utrecht University. Pieter also worked at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) in Amsterdam and he was active as a consultant.

Pieter did projects in countries including the Netherlands, Ghana, Kenya, Botswana, Cameroon and Zambia, for eg UNEP Finance Initiative, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign affairs, the Dutch province of Overijssel, the World Bank, WWF, the OECD and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

He published numerous scientific papers, book chapters, reports and op-eds and is a contributing author to the IPCC's fifth assessment report. Over the last couple of years, Pauw presented his work over a 100 times at (international) conferences, workshops and for broader audiences. Pieter likes to moderate events as well, and gives interviews to media occasionally.

Pieter Pauw successfully defended his PhD at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development (Utrecht University) in 2017 and finalized his MSc in 'Environment and Resource Management' at the VU University in Amsterdam (2008).
