Biography

Nik Mittal is the co-founder of Molecule Ventures, a recently built investment platform for investing in carbon markets. He is also a partner in Plankton Energy LLC, a small commercial and industrial solar developer. For the past two years he was an Adjunct Professor of Finance at NYU Stern School of Business, teaching an MBA course Value Investing Strategies as well as a Senior Fellow, Climate Innovation and Policy, at the Environmental Defense Fund.

Prior to that he was a Partner at JANA Partners LLC, an event-driven investment firm, where he spent 12 years before leaving in early 2018. While at JANA, Mittal was focused on public markets investing across multiple industries and managing the analyst team and firm. He spent 16 years in asset management and prior to that he ran a small start-up. Mittal started his career as an investment banking associate at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette.

Mittal is focused on efforts to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation. He completed a Certification in Sustainable Finance at Columbia University with a focus in renewables and environmental markets. He received his J.D./M.B.A. in 1998 from NYU School of Law and NYU Stern School of Business, where he was a Stern Scholar. Prior to that, he received his B.A. in economics, with honors and distinction, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993. Mittal is a member of the NYU School of Law Board of Trustees.
