Dr. Espinoza-Moraga is experienced biomedical scientist working as a Research Assistant Professor and Scientific Coordinator at the García-Sastre Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). Currently her work is especially important in the fight of COVID-19 pandemic and flu. She coordinates projects involving basic research, animal, and clinical studies to find vaccine and therapeutics, and human surveillance. Dr. Espinoza-Moraga is working on several national and international initiatives including the NIAID-funded programs the Center for Research on Influenza Pathogenesis (CRIP), the Cross-CEIRS COVID-19 Human Surveillance Concept in the Southern Hemisphere and Equatorial Regions, the Vaccine Adjuvant Discovery Program, FluOMICS, and CIVIC. She is also supporting efforts on partnership grants with industries and other research institutes. She works on fundraising, contract and grant writing, science communication (conference presentations, writing in scientific journals and newsletters, reporting, press release, social media, branding/logo creation), software implementation in the lab, reagent submission to BEI Resource, amongst others. Her job commitment to both science and the community has been also demonstrated with commitment to lead the Postdoc Advisory Committee within the Department of Microbiology at the ISMMS and currently working on the scholarship proposal for women scientists from developing nations.
