MCE

Marc has 20 years of business experience in the Chemical Industry and has worked with major companies in the US and Europe, including ExxonMobil and DSM. His broad knowledge comes from roles in Sales, Marketing, Operations and IT, ranging from strategy to execution. He has helped these companies deliver significant improvements in profitability, customer loyalty and employee productivity. He has an entrepreneurial, can-do leadership style that energizes those he works with. At the same time, his work is always founded on facts and solid analysis. He has worked with and managed people from all regions in the world and has a high cross-cultural sensitivity.

Professional background

After completing his military service as an officer in the Royal Dutch Navy, Marc started in 1992 with ExxonMobil Chemical in The Netherlands. To develop his management and leadership competencies, he held various positions in Manufacturing, Operations and IT. Between 1996 and 2001 Marc was in various sales roles including Marketing & Sales manager for the Wire & Cable Business in Europe. In 2001, Marc moved to ExxonMobil Chemical’s headquarters in the USA to work on a major global business transformation program where he managed the team that completely redesigned and implemented the global sales processes and organization for pricing, receivables and credit risk management. In 2004, he moved to Prague, Czech Republic for ExxonMobil’s Lubricants & Specialties business to set up and manage a centralized customer service organization where he consolidated 17 local country operations into one customer service centre with 300 FTEs delivering over 35% of efficiencies and higher customer satisfaction. His final position with ExxonMobil was in Brussels, where he was Global Business Manager for the white oils specialty business.

In 2007, Marc moved to DSM, a $10bn specialty chemicals company in The Netherlands as Global Director e business and CRM where he stayed for 4 years. There he has led the design and implementation of a global CRM program to improve the effectiveness of the sales force and make the company more customer-centric and profitable. He also introduced digital marketing and doubled e commerce sales to $2bn.

Education and qualifications

Marc holds a Master degree in Electrical Engineering from Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands (diploma 1990) and has since continued to develop his management and leadership competencies. He holds certificates in Sales, Advanced Negotiation and Leadership from INSEAD France, IMD, Switzerland and other institutions. He is an MCE Business Mentor.
