Dr. Kristen Hawley Turner is an Associate Professor of English Education and Contemporary Literacies at Fordham University. She is the director of the Contemporary Learning and Interdisciplinary Research (CLAIR) Program in Fordham’s Graduate School of Education.
She received her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Teaching at Columbia University (Teachers College) and her Ph.D. in Literacy Education at Rutgers University. As a certified teacher of secondary English and social studies, she taught high school in New Jersey before shifting to focus on teacher education at the collegiate level.
Dr. Turner is a researcher and writer with numerous articles, book chapters, and guest blog posts. She has co-authored Connected Reading: Teaching Adolescent Readers in a Digital Age (2015) and Argument in the Real World: Teaching Adolescents to Read and Write Digital Texts (2017). Her research focuses on the intersection between technology and literacy. She is also interested in the teaching of argument and using reflective practice to help students learn content and process.
A consultant for the National Writing Project, Dr. Turner is the founder and director of the Digital Literacies Collaborative and a lead editor for the peer-reviewed professional blog Teachers, Profs, Parents: Writers Who Care.
