Biography

Professor Joo Jeong Hwan joined Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology in 2019. Before joining UNIST, he worked at the University of Hong Kong from 2013 to 2019. He received a BBA from Seoul National University in 1994 and an MBA from the University of Minnesota in 2006. He obtained his doctorate from the University of British Columbia in 2013. He also worked for the Bank of Korea and the Financial Supervisory Service.

Professor Joo conducted research on accounting-based valuation, earnings management, executive compensation contracts, insider trading, information disclosure, and corporate governance. He served as a reviewer for Contemporary Accounting Research, Corporate Governance: An International Review, Accounting and Business Research, Applied Economics, Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics, Asia-Pacific Journal of Financial Studies, and Korean Management Review. He taught principles of finance and accounting (master of technology & innovation management), financial accounting (undergraduate), intermediate accounting (undergraduate), financial statement analysis and valuation (undergraduate), and principles of management (undergraduate, team-teaching).

He is a member of the Accounting and Auditing Committee of Korean Accounting Association, a member of the Financial Supervision Advisory Committee (Banking Division) of the Financial Supervisory Service, a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Financial Supervisory Service, a member of the Committee for the Review and Approval of the Basel III credit risk models of Korean financial holding companies of the Financial Supervisory Service, and an academic advisor, the Bank of Korea.
