Biography
-
My name is Jaclyn A. Siegel, PhD, and I am a feminist social psychologist.
Presently, I work for the San Diego State University Research Foundation as a postdoctoral research scholar in the Body Image, Sexuality, and Health Lab. I presently serve as the project director of an NIH-funded clinical trial of an eating disorders prevention program for sexual minority men, the PRIDE body project. I completed my bachelor's and master's degrees at Villanova University, and I hold a doctorate in social psychology from The University of Western Ontario.
My research focuses on the intersection of social justice, gender, and bodies. I am interested in generating, expanding, and critiquing theories to understand a wide range of embodied experiences. I am endlessly fascinated by the ways in which social forces, gender dynamics, and self-conscious emotions work together, creating a constant flow of self-evaluation and perceptions of the self in the eyes of others. Through science communication, consulting, and social advocacy, I aim to use this research to enhance the quality of people's lives in their relationships, work, and beyond.
I use a range of methods to explore my various research interests. I am a qualitative researcher at heart -- I am committed to understanding, analyzing, and earnestly communicating people's lived experiences. I have published research using a variety of qualitative analytic techniques including grounded theory, reflexive thematic analysis, and consensual qualitative research. I also have a strong statistical background, including psychometrics and structural equation modeling.
When I'm not working, I enjoy traveling, reading, writing, yoga, and photography.
