Harold Ngabo-Woods

Adjunct Professor of Ergonomics & Engineering

Biography

Am an industrial/product design engineer, architect, biomedical design engineer, urban designer & researcher focused on integral design strategies & processes ranging from Design for Health, Non-Standard Architecture, Industrial/Product-Services & Systems Design Engineering and UX/UI design - specialising in emergent technologies, interaction, advanced & responsive design. I have a diverse background & international experience - worked and collaborated with award-winning design (Product Services Systems Design) & architecture firms; on a number of small-medium and large-scale projects in Singapore, Netherlands, South Africa, Malaysia, Australia, Uganda, Vietnam, Kenya, and Spain etc

The diverse multidisciplinary background & knowledge is an experience that evokes more curiosity. My interests lie in merging advanced technological fields of health & wellBeing, space/architecture, Industrial/Product-Services System design, UX/UI, human-centered design, Psychology, Cognitive Sciences, HCI, among others and R&D+i. I pursue creative, innovative and aesthetic, yet functional design in products-services & systems usable in the day-to-day lives of the end user; easy to use, such that they simplify life and most certainly enhance the quality of the user’s life and experiences without compromising their needs. Thus, I draw no boundary lines between industries and meanders across medicine, engineering, industrial/product design, business, architecture, technology & innovation, management + entrepreneurship, and R&D+i among others with interest in the end users & how they interact with these forever emerging technologies.

My projects have been exhibited at various international venues e.g: DHUB Barcelona Design Museum, Dutch Design Week, Aa Design Museum & MoAD

Area of research and teaching expertise include; User Research, Applied Ergonomics, Cognitive Ergonomics, user-centered design, design for interaction, health technology innovation, human factors in product design, inclusive design, medical device innovation, Interfaces, and VR.MR.AR. I am concerned with studying both the physical and cognitive aspects of the user-product interaction in order to apply them in design processes. I have developed methods for product teams to explore and share end-to-end knowledge across product design and use, and for stakeholders through collaborative design strategies. I have global professional experience in product design consulting and user research for design, both employed and independently.
