Australia and New Zealand School of Government

Hannah (BA, LLB-LP (Hons), LLM) is a research fellow in social procurement across all sectors, with a focus legal, policy and regulatory design and social procurement’s function as a social justice mechanism and disaster recovery tool. Her research spans regulatory design, corporate law, human rights, sustainability and disaster management. Hannah has experience across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, including with top-tier international and Australian law firms and international.

Hannah Irving (LLM, LLB-LP (Hons), BA) joined Melbourne School of Government in early 2019 and is currently a Research Fellow in Social Procurement and Renewing Democracy at the School, as well as co-editor of the School’s Governing During Crises Policy Brief series. She holds a Master of Laws (First Class Hons.) from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice (First Class Hons.) and Bachelor of Arts (Majors: International Relations and Drama) from Flinders University.

In addition to her work at the School of Government, Hannah is a Senior Legal Consultant (Human Rights and Disaster Law/Management) at Humanitarian Consulting Pty Ltd. Previously, Hannah worked in Dispute Resolution with top-tier Australian and International law firms including Herbert Smith Freehills, Lipman Karas, and Minter Ellison. She has also held positions as a Judge’s Associate at the Supreme Court of South Australia, as a Legal Officer at a Cambodian Human Rights NGO based in Phnom Penh, and as a pro bono lawyer at several not-for-profit organisations.
