Previous to joining CMU-IS, Gabriela Gongora-Svartzman was an Adjunct Instructor for the BIA Program, Business School, Stevens Institute of Technology. She was also an Adjunct Associate Faculty for the Applied Analytics Program, SPS, Columbia University. During her time at Stevens she has been a researcher at the Visualization for Optimal Decision Making Lab (VizDec), a Teacher Assistant for Engineering Economics E-355 (on campus and abroad), and a co-teacher for Data Visualization (EM-622) and Multi-Agent Socio Technical Systems (ES-660), as well as a Research Scientist for the Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC).

Gabriela holds a PhD in Engineering Management from Stevens Institute of Technology, School of Systems and Enterprises. She also holds a double major as a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering and a M.Sc. in Computer Science.

Gabriela’s research is focused towards bridging the quality of experience and quality of services in smart cities. Gabriela has a multidisciplinary approach to solving real world problems, through data visualization, data analytics and data-driven support systems for decision-making. Her three main research areas are 1) Urban Informatics, 2) Data Visualization for Decision Making and 3) Resilience and Social Perception.

She is a current member of INFORMS and IEEE, was a proud Grace Hopper Scholar in 2018, a Scholar at Tapia Conference in 2019, and had a leading position at the INCOSE Student Chapter at Stevens during 2015-2016. In her free time, she volunteers teaching coding to kids, promoting women in STEM and sharing her culture with young students in New York through One to World.
