Fredrik Lavén

Senior Lecturer at University of Gothenburg

Biography

-

Fredrik Lavén works as a researcher and teacher within business administration and particularly management and organization studies. His research interests concern organizing, innovation, strategy and organizational change. Several of his studies have specifically focused on the relationship between plans and action in organizing.

After receiving a B.Com. Honours degree in Business studies at the University of Edinburgh in 2002, Fredrik wrote a doctoral thesis on how innovation policy is translated into practice, which was defended at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg in 2008. He subsequently carried out a follow-up study based on his Ph.D. thesis, together with colleagues at the School of Business, comparing different innovation initiatives. Fredrik then led a VINNOVA-project focusing on how competence standards and validation methods were put into practice and has participated in several labour market restructuring projects. His current research focuses on two areas: 1) organising innovation and particularly efforts of organizing renewable energy production, and 2) organisational change and labour market restructuring.

In 2011, Fredrik was a visiting fellow at the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society (InSIS) at the University of Oxford, and in 2013 he was a visiting scholar at the Scandinavian Consortium for Organizational Research (SCANCOR) at Stanford University.

Fredrik teaches and directs graduate courses. He also works with executive education in the E-MBA programme and other organization-specific programmes. His current areas of tuition are: Strategy and organization, scenario planning, innovation management and policy, business renewal, organizational learning and change.

Alongside his engagement at the university, Fredrik is also an associated consultant at NormannPartners, which is an applied research and management consulting firm working with strategic renewal, scenario planning and business innovation.
