Edgar Gutierrez-Franco is a Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics in the Sustainable Supply Chains Lab. He is participating in projects related with Circular Supply Chains and Omnichannel Distribution Strategies. He also serves since 2009 as a Research Affiliate at the Center for Latin America Logistics Innovation (CLI) part of the MIT Global SCALE network and is Fulbright Scholar since 2014. His research interests are i) Data-driven modeling of systems: Supply Chain Network Design, Manufacturing and Distribution ii) Data-driven sustainability analysis & Circular Economy and iii) intersection of optimization with statistics/machine learning to support decision-making processes.

Dr.Gutierrez-Franco has over twelve years of experience in data-driven decision-making solutions to support business operations. His specialties are in Supply Chain Management, Applied Optimization and Machine Learning. He has experience in supply chain consulting, retail, and beverage industry and in the academic field in projects and teaching related to Operations Research and Supply Chain Management.

Prior to joining the CTL, Dr. Edgar was a postdoctoral researcher on a project with the Office of Naval Research and Instructor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems at the University of Central Florida. Additionally, Dr. Edgar was an entrepreneurial leader in a project with the National Science Foundation's Innovation Corps program, based on his dissertation on urban logistics. Dr. Edgar has publications in scientific journals and has serve as editor and author of two books related with engineering analytics and artificial intelligence.

His educational background includes a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of La Sabana, an MSc. in Industrial Engineering with focus on Operations Research and Statistics from the University of Los Andes, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Management Systems from the University of Central Florida (2019). During his time as a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Transportation and Logistics (2009-2010), he participated in projects of MIT CTL’s corporate partners in Supply Chain Innovation in Emerging Markets and Carbon-Efficient Supply Chains.
