Brittany Brown is the Community Manager for National Public Radio (NPR), where she is a part of the Audience Engagement & New Ventures team responsible for developing and executing a strategy to reach younger, diverse audiences.

Prior to NPR, she was employed as a social media strategist for the U.S. Army and was responsible for the execution of social media best practices, policy, training and strategic planning. As a result of her “hands on approach” to social media engagement, outreach and updates tailored for each platform, the Army’s social media program has earned notoriety and “buzz” from a myriad of credible online sources such as Mashable, The Atlantic Wire, Business Insider, FedScoop, Military Times, CNN, GovLoop and Read Write Web.

Prior to joining the Army’s Social Media team in August 2010, Brown served a Public Affairs Specialist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Norfolk, Va. In her tenure at the Norfolk District Army Corps, Brown spearheaded an award-winning social media program that included Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, CNN iReport and Blogger. Beyond those social media platforms, Brown introduced Army Corps of Engineers personnel to internal communication tools, such as Yammer, to facilitate interoffice collaboration, knowledge management and information sharing. Brown also served as a web content manager which led to an increase in unique visitor Web traffic by more than 60 percent.

A product of Virginia public schools, Brown holds a Bachelors degree in Government (American Politics Track) and Sociology from the University of Virginia.
