Dr. Aleksandra Drizo, CEO of PhosphoReduc, is a research professor in sustainable technologies for water pollution control as well as the director of the Constructed Wetlands Research Center located at the University of Vermont (UVM) Paul Miller Dairy Farm.

For the past 15 years, Dr. Drizo's research and expertise has been focused on innovative environmental technologies for water pollution prevention and control and sustainable water management. During the 1990s, Dr. Drizo pioneered research on the use of various iron, aluminum and calcium based materials (both natural and industrial by-products) for phosphorus removal from wastewaters. She has worked in Europe, Canada, New Zealand and the US, holds her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, UK, and has been recognized as a leading researcher in the domain of filter technologies for phosphorus removal from wastewaters.

Since her arrival at the UVM Department of Plant and Soil Science in February 2004, Dr. Drizo has been a part of 23 successful research proposals (16 as the Principal Investigator) that have brought nearly 1.4 million dollars to the UVM Plant and Soil Science Department. Dr. Drizo was a recipient of a Fellowship from the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and development) Co-operative Research Program in Biological Resource Management for Sustainable Agricultural Systems (Directorate for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Paris, France) and, in 2004, she was hosted by Dr. Shilton of Massey University, New Zealand, to investigate process mechanisms of filter technology for phosphorus removal from dairy farm effluents.

Since then, Dr. Drizo's research activities have resulted in 17 publications, including 8 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 6 papers in national and international conference proceedings, 6 peer-reviewed abstracts, 1 book, 1 book chapter and 1 technical report.
