Dr Chan obtained his MBBS degree in Kings College London, University of London in 2001. He completed his surgical training in the Department of Surgery in Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong and attained his fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons, Hong Kong in 2008. He became a faculty member in the Department of Surgery, The University of Hong Kong as Clinical Assistant Professor in 2009, and is currently a staff surgeon and honorary associate consultant for the Division of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, and Liver Transplantation in Queen Mary Hospital.
His research interests focus on the surgical management of hepatocellular carcinoma in particular salvage liver transplantation, laparoscopic liver resection and the development of staging system. He has won the Silver Award for the Best Research by Trainees in the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2007, the Best Oral Presentation in the 6th International Meeting "Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Eastern and Western Experiences" in 2008. He has presented in various international meetings including the plenary session in the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association World Congress 2012 and the best oral paper in the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association World Congress 2014, one of the largest academic exchange activities in the field of HBP Surgery. He was also invited as reviewers for various peer-reviewed international journals such as Journal of Clinical Oncology and Liver Transplantation. He is also actively engaged in clinical research with publications in numerous international surgical journals including Annals of Surgery, and Liver Transplantation.
