Description

Many school leaders and teachers are facing overwhelming demands, complex relationships, and uncertain work environment. Often running on empty and feeling tired, anxious, overworked and stressed, many school leaders admit to having difficulty getting through the day without feeling distracted and frustrated with their work, even though they are passionate about the mission they serve. They know they can do better but feel unsure of the path forward.

  • Are you a school leader who faces some of the challenges mentioned above?
  • Do you want to learn and re-establish a self-awareness practice that will help you deal stress and anxiety?
  • Do you want to find ways to incorporate mindfulness into your leadership effectiveness?

This 10-hour workshop is primarily for alumni of the Summer Principals Academy (SPA) program and their invited colleagues currently serving in education leadership positions. Other education leaders interested in joining may also attend. This retreat is an opportunity for attendees to reconnect with their passion and purpose for the work they do in schools and with students. Facilitation will include reintroduction of Self Awareness Training (SAT) that the alumni learned during SPA in order to energize and rejuvenate body, mind, and spirit. In addition, this will be a chance for alumni to network with other SPA graduates and learn about each other’s work around transforming schools and communities across the country.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

Through this program, leaders will:

  • Deepen connection to core principles and practices of SAT
  • Learn best practices around leading and facilitating SAT for others
  • Reconnect with friends and colleagues from their cohort and also network with other SPA graduates and attendees to explore points of intersection, opportunities for collaboration, or initiate new careers or ventures
  • Re-establish in core principles and practices of SAT
  • Learn best practices around leading and facilitating SAT for others
  • Reconnect with friends and colleagues from their cohort and also network with other SPA graduates to explore points of intersection, opportunities for collaboration, or initiate new careers or ventures
  • Establish greater emotional fitness & self regulation
  • Deepen connection with their inner wisdom, intuition, and feelings
  • Enhance personal leadership presence and increase capacity to focus and prioritize

Schedule

Friday (4 - 7 pm)

  • Welcome and Introductions
  • SAT Practice
  • Network with Colleagues

Saturday (8 am - 5 pm)

  • Learn specific SAT practices
  • SAT practice with current SPA|NOLA students
  • Lunch (Mindful Eating Practice)
  • Incorporating SAT into school leadership: success stories or challenges
  • Convene in small coaching groups to learn how to facilitate SAT practice for others
  • Mindfulness in Everyday and Self-Compassion Practice
  • Closing and certificates

Who should attend

This program is designed specifically for the alumni of the Summer Principals Academy (SPA) and their invited colleagues and friends. Other education leaders interested in the participating in the workshop may also attend.
