Sarah-Jane holds both a PhD in Organisational Behaviour and an MSc in Human Resource Management from Dublin City University. She also holds a BA in Sociology and Psychology from University College Cork where she was awarded the prize for best dissertation for her research on feminism and body image.

Her research interests lie primarily in the area of employee health and well-being at (e.g. work engagement, burnout, workaholism and mindfulness), and her research explores how jobs are designed by managers and crafted by employees to promote the quality of working life. Her research methods include diary, multi-level and intervention studies within both private and public sector organisations including Novartis, An Garda Síochána and Dublin Fire Brigade. Her research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals including the European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology, the International Journal of Human Resource Management, Organisational Psychology Review and Accident Analysis and Prevention. She has also presented numerous peer-reviewed papers at national and international conferences including the annual meetings of the Academy of Management, the European Association of Work and Organisational Psychology, and the European Association of Occupational Health Psychology. In line with her expertise in the area, she also serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Human Resource Management.

In 2017 Sarah-Jane completed all taught and residential elements of a Professional Diploma in Teaching Mindfulness-Based Interventions. She is passionate about sharing mindfulness practice (in the form of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Programmes) with both students in her modules and employees and managers in the organisations with whom she works.
