Muataz Al Barwani joined NYUAD in February 2012 to establish the High Performance Computing Center and support all computational research at NYU Abu Dhabi.

Before coming to NYU Abu Dhabi, Muataz was a full-time tenured faculty member at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman from 2000 to 2012, where he taught physics, advised students, contributed to academic administration and carried out research in the area of computational physics and material science where he has published over 25 scientific publications.

He received his bachelor's’ degree in Physics from Sultan Qaboos University (Oman) in 1992, a master’s degree in Physics from Brown University (USA) in 1995, and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Bristol (UK) in 2000.
