Harvard Medical School
Matthew Steinhauser, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the Director of the Center for Human Integrative Physiology at the University's Aging Institute. He is a practicing Cardiologist at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Dr. Steinhauser's research laboratory in the Aging Institute focuses on the cellular and molecular responses to tissue injury or metabolic stress, and how these responses drive diseases of aging like diabetes. He is also interested in how the adaption to fasting is metabolically beneficial and may slow aging.
Dr. Steinhauser completed his undergraduate and medical degree at the University of Michigan, residency and chief residency at Columbia University Medical Center, and cardiology fellowship and post-doctoral research training at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Prior to his current position, Dr. Steinhauser was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and was the principle investigator of a research laboratory in the Division of Genetics, Brigham and Women's Hospital.
