Vlerick Business School Executive Education

Mario helps you improving your project performance and resource efficiency by combining research results with practical experience.

 Mario Vanhoucke is Full Professor at Vlerick Business School and Professor at University College London and UGent. At the faculty of Economics and Business Administration of UGent, he heads the Operations Management and Information Science Center. In his research he focuses on project management (PM) using earned value management (EVM). His research has been published in renowned research outlets such as Management Science, Operations Research, The Accounting Review, Project Management Journal, The International Journal of Project Management, and two PM books published by Springer.
He is Director of the EVM Europe Association (* www.evm-europe.eu) which aims to advance the uptake and use of the EVM method in Europe. He is Partner of OR-AS (* www.or-as.be) and Developer of the PM software tool ProTrack (* www.protrack.be) and the online PM Knowledge Center (* www.pmknowledgecenter.com).
His research has received multiple awards by the International Project Management Association (IPMA), the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the American Accounting Association. Since 2011, he leads a research group which has obtained Concerted Research Actions (CRA) funding of more than € 1 million for an integrated PM research study, that will be carried out in collaboration with UGent, The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN, Switzerland), University College of London (UK) and George Washington University (USA).

Mario Vanhoucke is a full professor at Ghent University (Belgium) and Vlerick Business School (Belgium) and a senior teaching fellow at University College London (UK). He is passionate about everything that is related to project scheduling, risk analysis and project control. He is continuously searching for better ways to measure, improve and optimize the performance of projects in progress and their resource efficiency. He therefore relies on his Operations Research background and combines research with practice in his yearly conference at EVM Europe (www.evm-europe.eu) in collaboration with PMI (www.pmi.org).

As a founder of the “Operations Research & Scheduling” (www.projectmanagement.ugent.be) research group and leader of a more than a million euro research project, together with universities at the UK and the US, he continuously strives for setting up collaborations with national and international companies, often with members from PMI Belgium.

Mario writes his own project management software tools, both as standalone desktop versions and as integrative tools in company software environments. Mario shares his ideas at the EVM Europe conference and can be followed on twitter (@MarioVanhoucke or @ORASTalks).
