Mario Kafouros

Professor Mario Kafouros holds the Chair of International Business and Innovation (University of Manchester, UK). He is the Head of Division (PMO) in Alliance Manchester Business School (UK), and Senior Editor of the journal of International Business Review (IBR). He has extensive industrial and academic experience in the field of innovation and international business & strategy and has held senior leadership roles in Universities and research centres. He is visiting professor in different Universities around the world and has taught in various countries (e.g. Germany, Hong Kong, China).

He is the elected Secretary of the Academy of International Business (AIB UKI) and sits on its Executive Committee. He is appointed adviser to the Commonwealth, and he is a member of the Research Committee and a member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) peer review college.

Professor Kafouros is the former Head of the International Business Department at Leeds University Business School, UK. He has served as a member of the Faculty Executive Group in the University of Leeds, as a member of the executive board of the Business Confucius Institute in Leeds, as Director of Research in IB, and as a member of the University of Leeds Cross-Faculty Impact Committee. He was responsible for the previous submission of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) for the Faculty and served as REF leader.

Professor Kafouros is supervising / has supervised 13 PhD students. His research, which draws from different disciplines such as economics, geography, sociology and law,focuses on the determinants of internationalization and the consequences of certain international strategies for firm competitiveness; the forces driving innovation and firm performance in the global economy; and the mechanisms enabling multinational firms to benefit from technological development. His research has received strong recognition in the form of:

(1) Best Paper Awards (e.g., Emerald Citations of Excellence Award 2015; Distinguished Professor Hong Kong; European International Business Academy 2013, Academy of International Business 2010, and British Academy of Management 2008),

(2) Nearly £4,000,0000 funding from research councils (e.g. UK’s Economic and Social Research Council ESRC, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council EPSRC), government organizations and multinational companies, and

(3) Publications in leading international journals such as Journal of Management (JoM), Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), Journal of Management Studies (JMS), Research Policy, Organization Studies, Human Relations, Journal of Product Innovation Management (JPIM), Journal of World Business (JWB) and British Journal of Management (BJM).
