Mahbub Zaman (BA Hons LSB, MA Essex, PhD Manchester) is Professor of Accounting at Hull University, UK. Previously, he was Professor at QUT, Brisbane, Australia and Associate Professor and PhD Programme Director at Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, UK.
His contributions to senior level university leadership includes experience as member of the Faculty Leadership Team as well as: Chair, Faculty of Business Law and Politics Professoriate; Director, Early Careers Academics (FBLP); University Senate Member; University Research Committee Member.
He has internationally recognised expertise, acquired over nearly two decades of research and teaching, in Auditing, Corporate Governance and Sustainability. His experience includes:

Research Leadership:
Published in internationally leading journals with 3,700+ Google Scholar citations, including 1,500+ for his five papers on audit committees, sustainability and governance.
Expertise and interests include: audit committees, audit quality, auditor reporting, board effectiveness, sustainability, internal audit, risk management, standard setting and regulation.
Research funding from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and QUT High Potential Research Grant (HPRG).
Supervised over 15 PhD and numerous Masters students; examined over 20 PhD students.
Teaching - Approach and Subjects
Role as external examiner, internal moderator and course coordinator provide evidence of leadership and competence in teaching.
Design and delivery is intellectually engaging and I am able to stimulate direct participation / discussion in large lecture sessions.

audit quality, auditor choice and auditor independence.
the role of state and policy makers in influencing governance reforms and shaping governance practice.
formal and private interactions between governance agents.
international and national (regulatory and cultural) influences on governance practice, including enterprise risk management and internal control effectiveness.
He has undertaken and published research examining:
corporate governance quality, audit fees and non-audit fees
informal governance and behavioural effects
effectiveness of audit committees
international convergence and divergence in governance
governance and control of parent-subsidiary
value and relevance of the auditors' reports
regulation of auditing and lobbying
