Kim spent her ten-year corporate career in the retail industry in operations management, learning and development, generalist Human Resources management and strategic roles, culminating in the role of Intellectual Capital Executive for a large, listed retail group. She also did a short stint in banking based in the offshore centre of Mauritius.  Equipped with this blend of HR skills and business experience, Kim left the corporate world in May 2001 to start a boutique consulting business, Kim Rey and Associates Human Resources Consulting.

 

Over the fifteen years that Kim has been running her consulting business, she has consulted for  a variety of multi-national, listed and small to medium-sized companies across several sectors including retail, insurance, banking, tourism and hospitality, motor, food services, IT, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, banking, NGO and government.  Kim has worked in South Africa, West Africa (Nigeria and Ghana), North Africa (Egypt), East Africa (Kenya), Mauritius, Europe and the Middle East.

Consulting Involvement

Kim consults for a number of small, medium and large corporates and multi-national companies.  Her coaching interventions often form part of larger change interventions and leadership development programmes.

Kim has facilitated and coached across all levels, from Executive to First line manager, as a Leadership/Personal development and Action Learning Coach. She is experienced in coaching both individuals and groups. In addition to South Africa, Kim has coached managers and executives in the rest of Africa and the Middle East. She facilitates workshops in the areas of personal effectiveness, leadership, career development, optimisation of performance, leadership presence, team effectiveness, change management and human resources.

15 years of extensive consulting experience in South Africa, North and West Africa, Europe and the Middle East in the areas of:

  • Leadership development;
  • Talent management, retention and development (including career development);
  • Various change projects; and
  • Strategy. 

Significant Achievements

  • Developing and facilitating a leadership development programme in Egypt for senior managers from the Middle East and North Africa for a multi-national pharmaceutical company in 2008.
  • Creating and facilitating performance management and career development workshops for senior and middle managers in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Johannesburg (for the SADC region) in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
  • Appointed as Country Director of the Business Bridge Initiative for 2011 & 2012, working under Professor Hay from London Business School.
  • Successfully managing the transition as the country transition lead for the South African business of a multi-national company for a significant global change project which involved moving all people practices to a global approach (2011-2012). This involved work in Spain and Budapest, and engaged internal and external stakeholders globally.
  • Designing and implementing a leadership capability benchmarking exercise (2012-2013) as part of a broader talent development strategy working with the senior management team of a multi-national company in emerging markets in the Middle East. This included one-on-one coaching at senior and middle management levels with a focus on career development.
  • Coaching managers and executives on leadership development programmes at GIBS as part of the General Management and Global Executive development programmes, various executive coaching programmes and senior leadership programmes with large South African and international companies.
  • Successfully completing a leadership benchmarking process and career development intervention which involved one-on-one leadership/career development coaching for executives and country managers for a multi-national company in the pharmaceutical industry for Sudan, French West Africa, Iran, Iraq, Libya and Yemen in 2010, and subsequently in 2013 and 2015.
  • Coaching approximately fifteen senior managers and specialists at a large, global motor manufacturing company over four years.
  • Coaching twelve high-potential managers for senior leadership and executive successions in Mauritius in 2016 and 2017.
  • Designing and customising learning interventions for a medium-sized, niched insurance company. This includes a suite of programmes, such as performance optimisation, career management and team effectiveness from board to technical specialist levels (2009-2015). Kim continues to facilitate these programmes for the client.
  • Coaching global executives of a leading Information Technology company on a leadership development programme at GIBS over four years. This involved action learning and personal development coaching. Two of the project teams achieved notable results and, in 2015, the team she coached received commendations from the CEO at the final presentations.

Kim uses a range of methodologies which she has learned over her career in Human Resources, as well as in the fifteen years that she has been running her HR consulting business.  Kim works with an eclectic coaching methodology which draws on both her formal training and her years of coaching experience.
