Biography
Jernej Letnar Cernic is a Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellow at the European University Institute. His research interests are in human rights law, business and human rights, investment law, international criminal law, transitional justice and criminal law. He completed his Ph.D. on Corporate responsibility for fundamental human rights in 2009 at the School of Law, University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and his current research projects include: corporate obligations deriving from economic, social and cultural rights; a s tudy on how the memory of crimes committed by totalitarian regimes in Slovenia are dealt with in Slovenia; human rights protection in the Basque country; the application of the European Convention of Human Rights in Central Europe, and a study on regulating money laundering and tax havens. Jernej has worked in the European Ombudsman’s Office, the Superior Court of the Republic of Slovenia, the Law Institute in Ljubljana and the International Criminal Court. He has conducted tutorials and LL.M seminars at the University of Aberdeen and LL.M seminars at the University of Lund. Jernej is fluent in seven languages and he has written a number of articles and research studies in Slovene, English and Swedish on human rights law, international law, European Law and human rights and business. Jernej is a member of the International Human Rights Committee of the International Law Association.
