Gary Survis joined Insight in 2016 as a Operating Partner. Gary focuses on driving operational strategies and improvements within Insight and its portfolio companies. He leverages his experience to assist organizations in accelerating solutions in strategy, marketing, talent management, and sales operations.

Prior to joining Insight, Gary was the Chief Marketing Officer of Syncsort, a big data and mainframe enterprise software company, and the General Manager of its Sort business unit. During his tenure, he oversaw the re-positioning of the company from an old-line enterprise software company to an integral participant in the big data space. As well, he introduced modern marketing strategies to drive a robust B2B sales pipeline. Lastly, as the GM of the Sort business unit, Gary stabilized the revenue and drove new business increases, higher and more efficient renewals, and enhanced partner sales production.

Previously, Gary was Founder and “Chief Buzz Officer” at Practical Digital Marketing. PDM was a boutique consultancy which focused on assisting VC/private equity financed portfolio companies, and other organizations, with digital marketing, strategy development, and branding. He also acted as a “CMO-for-Rent” at multiple Insight portfolio companies.

Gary is a leader in the corporate sustainability space. Industry experience includes being COO of Geoscape Solar, a firm specializing in residential, commercial and non-profit solar projects, and Founder/Managing Partner of Go Green Displays, a sustainable print and display company. Survis has been featured in multiple media outlets including CMO.com, Sirius Radio, Forbes.com, and Knowledge@Wharton. He is a regular speaker and panel member covering marketing, big data, and sustainability to organizations including Canon, Cushman & Wakefield, FMC Corporation, Sustainable Brands, and the Wharton Energy Club Conference.

He is also currently on the adjunct faculty of the University of Pennsylvania’s Masters of Environmental Studies program. He is a Senior Fellow at Wharton’s Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership (IGEL) which focuses on corporate engagement in sustainability issues. He has also served as the learning director, and faculty member, for Wharton’s Executive Education program entitled, Business Sustainability Leadership. Gary has been responsible and moderated IGEL’s Annual Conferences on Big Data and Sustainability, Climate Change, and the Circular Economy.

Gary holds a Bachelor of Science from Wharton in Entrepreneurial Management, and an MBA in marketing from NYU Stern School.
